I’m Rahul and I’m based in York. I began to play the guitar when I was 14 years old. I remember hearing Samba Pa Ti by Santana on my dad’s Vinyl player and was immediately engrossed. Since then, guitar-driven music has been my biggest passion. My musical influences are taken from a range of genres from Pop to Heavy Metal, as I feel that the instrument is versatile enough to suit a wide range of styles. As a musician, I have played in a variety of different bands from a Black Sabbath tribute band to a modern dance funk group, alongside recording original solo pieces. These bands and many others have allowed me to play alongside people from different backgrounds, ages, and genres. More formally, I studied music at the degree level. It was at university that I developed an understanding between theory, intricate harmony, complex rhythms and virtuosic playing and this experience allowed me to become the dedicated musician that I am today. I have a variety of guitar teaching experience, from teaching pupils in larger groups to one-to-one lessons with individual students tailored to their individual needs. I have experience teaching students of different ages and abilities ranging from primary school age to adults and complete beginners to more advanced players. Recently, I have created a purpose-built recording studio, a perfect space for high-quality lessons away from distractions. Students can expect their lessons to be tailored to their needs and enjoyment. Lessons will be unique to the individual. What my lessons can offer: Understanding music theory to a high degree Putting theory and performance together via songwriting, improvisation, and aural skills. Learn guitar in a variety of genres: Pop, Classic Rock, Rock and Roll, Blues, Jazz, Metal, and Djent. Exploration of guitar techniques and phrasings such as Hammer-ons, pull-offs, natural harmonics, artificial harmonics, whammy bar techniques, slides, bends and many more. My philosophy in teaching is to allow the student to become well-equipped with a sound understanding in all areas, which will ultimately lead to the student to becoming an independent musician. All ages and abilities are welcome as I enjoy meeting new people who are enthusiastic about music. I look forward to hearing from you. Music Qualifications & Achievements: GCSE Music GCSE Maths GCSE English AS Level Music A Level Music Performance BA Popular Music (University of Huddersfield, 2:1) These qualifications have allowed me to appreciate a wide range of musical styles. My A and AS Levels in Music and Music Technology have given me an insight into music production and performance, which can help individuals that are looking to become self-reliant like myself. If students require support for their own GCSE in Music, help can also be provided in my lessons. As well as my formal qualifications, I have played for a number of bands and events. Throughout school, I performed in school concerts and was a member of a school orchestra during school productions and performances. I have also played at weddings, charity functions as well as being hired by a large department store to play during a promotional event. While at university, I gained invaluable experience playing alongside many gifted musicians both within a band setting or in a solo project. Upon leaving university I have played in various bands ranging from a Black Sabbath tribute band to an Americana rock group. I became inspired to teach music from an early age as I was predominantly self-taught and noticed others finding difficulty in either understanding music theory or playing the guitar in a practical sense and believe that I can help any student achieve their ambition as a musician.

I’m Craig have over 35 years’ experience of performing on both acoustic and electronic drums (live and in studios) in the entertainments industry. My past and present students have a long list of achievements, which range from drumming qualifications, further education at music colleges, playing in a live band to simply playing their drums at home and knowing that they have attained a higher understanding of the instrument. Guitar lessons: what to expect

Guitar lessons near you

The best guitar lessons near you aren’t just about distance — they’re about a teacher who helps you progress with clarity. Search by location to find in-person guitar lessons, or choose online lessons to access specialist teachers for acoustic, electric, fingerstyle, rock, or grades.

Who guitar lessons are for

Guitar lessons work for complete beginners, intermediate players, and advanced students. Lessons can be tailored for children, teenagers, or adults returning to guitar — with a focus on the styles and songs you actually want to play.

What you’ll learn in guitar lessons

Most students work on chord fluency, rhythm, strumming feel, scales, finger placement, and repertoire. A good teacher will also structure your practice so you build confidence and technique without getting stuck.

Online vs in-person guitar lessons

Online guitar lessons can be highly effective, especially for busy schedules and specialist tuition. In-person lessons can feel more hands-on and are great if you prefer local support and face-to-face feedback.

A simple learning path for guitar

A good teacher will tailor lessons to your goals — but here’s what progress often looks like.

Weeks 1–4: Foundations
1

Learn posture, tuning, chord changes, strumming patterns, and how to practise without building bad habits.

Months 2–3: Songs & rhythm
2

Build a steady sense of timing, expand chord vocabulary (including barre chords), and play full songs with confidence.

Months 3–6: Technique & style
3

Develop picking, fingerstyle, lead basics, improvisation foundations, or exam preparation — depending on your goals.

Getting started: what you need

Keep it simple at first — your teacher can help you choose the right setup.

  • Acoustic vs electric: your teacher can recommend what fits your music taste and comfort.
  • A tuner + a few picks is enough to start — then add a capo or strap as you progress.
  • A simple practice routine beats long sessions: aim for consistency, not intensity.

Styles & goals your teacher can support

Choose a direction — lessons can be tailored around what you actually want to play.
