Our story

I built this to find students

What started as a way to grow my own teaching practice has become a global registry.

2009
Solving my own problem as a teacher

I was an 18-year-old guitar teacher starting university and trying to find students. I built a simple website to increase my student numbers. Fairly quickly, I was teaching over 25 hours a week — and passing students over to other local teachers. Soon other teachers started reaching out to me to ask if I could generate students for them.

2016
Creating more than just websites

As the network grew, it became clear that teachers wanted more than listings — they wanted a consistent flow of new students and a professional way to present themselves online. Being recognised as 'Entrepreneur of the Year' gave me confidence in this approach.

2017
Building a national platform for teachers

The network continued evolved into a centralised database connecting thousands of students with verified teachers across the UK and Ireland. Teachers used it to grow sustainable private teaching businesses. Parents used it to find reliable tuition.

2021
Developing a global platform

As teachers joined from outside the UK, the limitations of local directories became clear. I rebranded the platform as MusicTeacher.com to reflect a broader mission: making professional private music teaching easier to discover worldwide.

2025
Partnering with RSL Awards

We partnered with RSL Awards to introduce certification for private music teachers — a clear, recognised signal that helps parents choose with confidence and helps teachers convert more enquiries without competing on price.
